Happy Thanksgiving and I hope you've had a blessed time with your loved ones as well as some time to recharge. It's been one week since my most recent project, Lil Couch, was released on all streaming platforms and as always, I'm appreciative of the feedback this little EP has received.
The genesis of this project was a celebration of sorts of my one year anniversary of guitar playing. I first purchased my red Fender Stratocaster on Facebook Marketplace on September 27th, 2024. That was my first time ever picking up a guitar in my life and I couldn't play a single song, chord, or note really. However, I was filled with optimism and a trial to the Justin Guitar beginner course. I played every single day, sometimes for hours at a time, and before I knew it, I learned a few chords and then Three Little Birds and so on and so on. It has been an incredible journey and reflecting upon it, I decided to play some of the songs I had released across my year long journey that defined my sound and some of the concepts I learned along the way.
The whole EP was recorded live in one take with just me and my Ibanez acoustic guitar to accompany each song. I decided to perform at least one song from each project in order:
- South Beach - this was the first song I ever wrote on the guitar. I had just learned major 7th chords and wanted to practice them and as soon as I started strumming, the chorus was the first thing I sang and I knew I needed to go record.
- Let's Rock - I wanted to lay down a track that leaned into a crunchier, more rock style of guitar sound. This was also the first song I ever wrote with barre chords which I would carry into future productions.
- Wontcha - An interlude, this track gave me the opportunity to work on palm muting and just a fun, playful rhythm. I really felt the groove with this song and it is an alternate mix of the full length track from my Moody EP.
- Lady - this is my most streamed song (to date) of all time. It's all barre chords throughout and I just felt like I wanted to give it a try on the acoustic as it's the purest form of how I wrote and imagined the song originally before I switched production over to my electric guitar.
- Moody - This is the lead single from my most recent EP and the first track I ever performed a guitar solo on. It was a landmark moment for me as a guitar player being able to solo over a self produced beat. This is a stripped version, but the emotion and vibe are all there.
Ultimately, this EP is for my fans and I appreciate y'all for rocking with me through this year long guitar journey. I hope you get to listen and enjoy Lil Couch!
